UAM Adds Sheep Herd

The University of Arkansas at Monticello has added a Katahdin sheep herd for its animal science program. Rocky Lindsey, University of Arkansas at Monticello assistant professor, shares the motivation for the addition and explains how it will provide more "hands-on" learning opportunities for students on campus.

Lonoke Agriculture Business Academy

The Lonoke School district recently began construction on a 30,000-square-foot Agriculture Business Academy, the first of its kind in Arkansas. The facility will house five hands-on programs of study designed to prepare students for skill-based careers right out of high school and/or for continuing education opportunities after high school. Elizabeth Anderson, of I.F. Anderson Farms and school milage campaign chair, explains the benefit the academy will have for Lonoke students, surrounding schools, and the community.

Farm Bureau Awards Outdoor Garden Mini-Grants

Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation has awarded a total of $4,000 in Outdoor Classroom Garden Mini-Grants to 10 schools and FFA programs across the state. Six schools received grants in the amount of $500.

Farm Bureau Announces Ag Education Awards

Arkansas Farm Bureau recognized Casey Rogers of Greene County Tech High School in Paragould as its 2020 Outstanding Ag Instructor of the Year. Caroline Lester of Westside High School in Jonesboro earned the 2020 Outstanding New Ag Instructor of the Year, and County Line High School in Branch grabbed the top spot as the Outstanding Ag Program of the Year.
