Jonesboro’s Hosman wins Farm Bureau leadership award
LITTLE ROCK — Dan Hosman, a row-crop farmer from Jonesboro, is the 2015 recipient of the Stanley E. Reed Leadership Award from the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation. Hosman accepted the award from Farm Bureau President Randy Veach and Charlene Reed, Stanley’s widow. The award was presented Dec. 2 during the organization’s 81st annual conference at the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Little Rock.
Hosman, 38, is a fifth-generation farmer. He grows rice, soybeans and sorghum. The Reed award goes to an active member, 36 to 45 years old, for outstanding leadership within their county Farm Bureau and community.
“Stanley Reed was very instrumental in getting me motivated to be a part of Farm Bureau, so I really looked up to his leadership and not only what he did for agriculture but for the state of Arkansas. I’m honored and humbled it, and Stanley Reed was a great man,” Hosman said.
Hosman is a former president, vice president and secretary/treasurer of Craighead County Farm Bureau. Hosman served on the state Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Committee. He won the 2004 state YF&R Discussion Meet. Hosman also has served on the county fair board and the Jonesboro Baseball Boosters. He presently is on the Arkansas Rural Development Commission and serves as secretary of the Arkansas Rice Council. He and his wife, Mikki, have four sons, Cade, 17; Rhett, 13; Hudson, 10; and Wyn, 5.
Arkansas Farm Bureau created the award in 2011 in honor of Stanley Reed, who was president of Arkansas Farm Bureau from 2003-2008. He died in an automobile accident in July 2011.
